What ceramic coating does for your car

The car will still collect road dirt and need cleaning. A coating also leaves existing paint defects in place, so preparation should consider both the condition of the surface and the result you want.

Prepare the finish you want to protect

Decontamination removes suitable deposits from the paint before application. If the finish also has swirls or light scratches that you want improved, Machine Polishing should be considered before coating.

Polishing is a separate service in this package structure. It is not automatically required for every car: the need depends on the paint’s condition, the desired result and the preparation requirements of the coating.

Mention correction and coating together when enquiring so the combined work can be assessed.

Plan for application and curing

Allow approximately 4–8 hours for preparation and application, excluding additional paint correction and curing. Coatings also have product-specific requirements for initial curing, exposure to water and the first wash.

Check these arrangements before booking if the car normally stays outside or you need it for a journey soon afterwards. There is no single waiting period that applies to every coating, and another product’s instructions should not be used in place of the aftercare for the one applied.

Look after the coated finish

Follow the coating’s washing and aftercare instructions. Regular cleaning remains important, and any additional wax, maintenance spray or contamination-removal product should be compatible with the installed system.

Avoid treating a change in water behaviour as an instant diagnosis. If the finish stops beading as expected, it may need assessment of its condition and maintenance rather than an immediate assumption that the whole coating has failed.

How long does the coating last?

Durability depends on the coating used, preparation, vehicle use and ongoing care. Request the product specification and expected service life with your quote so you can compare the actual treatment rather than a general “ceramic” label.

Does the price include polishing?

The £150–£300 coating service includes the listed wash, decontamination, application and aftercare. Machine polishing is a separate service to consider when you want existing paint defects improved before coating.

Can a new car benefit from preparation?

Yes. A new car still needs a suitable clean and preparation before coating. Whether it also needs polishing depends on the condition of the paint, rather than its age alone.

Will ceramic coating stop scratches or stone chips?

It does not make the paint scratch-proof and should not be relied on for stone-chip protection. If impact protection is your main priority, that is a different requirement from this coating service.

Can the car get wet immediately afterwards?

Follow the instructions for the coating applied. Rain exposure, initial curing and first-wash timing can have different requirements, so check them when planning the appointment instead of assuming the finish is ready for water immediately.

Does water beading prove a coating is still performing perfectly?

Beading is one visible characteristic, not a complete condition check. Contamination or changes in the surface layer can affect it. If water behaviour changes, seek advice based on the particular coating before applying a stronger cleaner or another product.

Can a coated car still develop water spots?

Yes. Water repellency does not make the finish immune to water spots. Follow the coating’s aftercare, particularly during its early curing period, and check compatibility before using a water-spot remover.
